PESTS by Vivienne Franzmann
Directed by Jess Gough
“Lookin’ down an’ dere a pool of blood dat was me. In da sand. It was me. An’ da sea came in an’ tooked da blood away, washed it out an’ I thinked I am part of dis world. I am part of dis. I am part of dis world.”
Sisters from the same nest. Both trapped in a tiny, rotting world. Both cuffed to a past that refuses to release them. Trouble is that when you complete each other, you’re nothing on your own.’Pests’ is a hard hitting, claustrophobic drama about sisterhood and trying to escape your past.
REVIEWS
The two performers, Daisy Miles (Pink) and Kyia KB (Rolly) were truly sensational and the entire story was gripping. I believed these characters from the second they stepped on stage. I felt this production showed us some of the most superb acting performances I have seen on any Manchester stage. – JARDA
Providing the necessary emotional anchor is Kyia KB as Rolly. Her performance is a clinic in subtle characterisation, expertly navigating Rolly’s precarious state. KB skilfully charts Rolly’s complex trajectory, powerfully juxtaposing the nascent hope of a pregnant, sober woman with the gut-wrenching devastation of her moments ‘high as a kite,’ making her desperate fight for freedom genuinely moving. Their dynamic: a toxic brew of love, resentment, and mutual destruction, drives the entire performance. – Canal ST
